  The Outdoor Pursuits Group

The Welsh Sports Association & the Outdoor Pursuits Group

The Welsh Sports Association (WSA) was set up under the Royal Charter of the Sports Council for Wales to represent the views and interests of the Governing Bodies of sports in Wales.

The WSA publishes an occassional Newsletter which is available for download on this web site and on the Welsh Sports Association web site.

The WSA acts as an independent consultative body to the Sports Council for Wales and UK sport, and works in close co-operation with the Confederation of British Sport (CBC). The Confederation of British Sport represents the collective view of the sports associations of the four home countries that make up the United Kingdom (UK). The WSA is managed by a democratically elected Executive Committee, which meets approximately four times a year. The WSA has two advisory groups which act as sub-committees of the Welsh Sports Association: The Outdoor Pursuits Group (OPG) seeks to represent the views and interests of the Welsh Governing Bodies of sports whose activities take place in the countryside. The OPG provides a focus for discussing the problems faced by outdoor pursuits in Wales, and a means of sharing the expertise and experience that already exists within the Governing Bodies represented on OPG.

The OPG also works closely with the Sports Council for Wales to encourage, promote and develop the participation in outdoor pursuits throughout Wales.
